Parent & Infant Psychotherapy


The word parent refers to the primary caregiver. This may be the mother/father/grandparent/aunt/uncle/foster carer or other person who assumes sole responsibility for the care of the infant.

Parent and infant psychotherapy is offered face to face. Online and telephone therapy is offered to remote areas or those with special needs

What is Parent & Infant Psychotherapy?

Parent & Infant Psychotherapy is a psychodynamic intervention that works with the parent and infant together. It is designed to address problems in the parent and infant relationship. To address regulatory disturbances and to work witharents and infants who want to ensure that their relationship is working in the most healthy way for parent & infant.


How long does it take?

Each session is for 50 minutes Frequency of sessions is usually weekly to begin and then arrangements are discussed on an individual basis. Length of therapy is individual and is discussed at the commencement of treatment and in an ongoing manner as required


What to expect?

Parent and infant attend sessions together. Parent & infant will attend to the infants' needs during the session just as they would at home. The therapist will observe and support the parent & infant interaction during the session
